BRYAN PEPPERELL'S MESSAGE TO THE CHINESE COMMUNITY

Saturday, July 14, 2007

VOTE BRYAN PEPPERELL FOR MAYOR

Thinking and acting on the serious issues of climate change and peak oil, Bryan Pepperell is a strong advocate of rail and public transport. Early concern about these issues often saw him at odds with the Mayor and Council, but steady persistence has now put climate change and peak oil on the Council's radar. Bryan Pepperell likes riding bicycles and wants to see more people using them as alternatives to oil addiction and the car culture of the last century.

Bryan Pepperell sees no justification for big cars and has down sized his own, happily riding in small cars, on motorcycles and bicycles. Bryan wants better cycle routes and dedicated cycle paths.

If we want to survive what could be difficult times ahead we must work closely with government and industry in order to cope with the paradigm shift as the carbon age draws to a close. In powering down we need to also keep a tight reign on expenditure, making public transport and alternatives such as walking and bicycling a priority. By doing this we can also return to a healthier community.

Energy conscious housing ought also to be a priority, along with living closer to work and provision for locally grown food. Taking these steps will drastically reduce carbon dependency, but the politically expedient "carbon speak" coming from the mouths of our current local body leadership, will not.
