Finally the day came after some carefully planning by a small group of dedicated community minded people and what a success the market was.

Many thanks to the family of Project Newtown. Special thanks to Lofty Surridge for giving his time and the Phillip Moore's Truck to collect the produce. Special thanks also to John Young of Levin for providing produce.

Many thanks for help and advice of Brian Hogan. Much appreciation to the tireless effort of Maria Van der Meel and Duncan Holland and the rest of the family of Project Newtown in keeping this vision alive.

Lastly thanks to WCC for the help given.

Attention Mayor Prendergast and Council

Public service to be down sized from 42,000 to 36,000

In the light of the proposed downsizing of the public service and the multiplier for unemployment, I would like to know what Council intends to do about the excessive pay increases it awarded itself earlier this year. Given that many public servants will be losing their jobs and will find it difficult to meet their rates bills, what is the justification for holding onto the excessive pay increases that Councillors voted for, in particular the Councillors who received between 10 and 50 percent more to serve on LATES and TRUSTS while earning well above the ordinary Councillor remuneration.

Last act completed and I am proud of my conduct towards the New Zealand Voters as they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, which is more then we can say about the Dominion Post and/or the New Zealand Herald.
They continue to insult the intellect of New Zealand Voters by predicting, with their home cooked poll's, John Key and the National Party have already won the 2008 Elections. Needless to say my efforts were not in vain acknowledging the importance of voting and those voting. I wonder what the Electoral Commission would have to say about that?

"Like President John F. Kennedy said, their words will be like ashes in their mouth".

The final sign from VOTE NEW ZEALAND to promote the act of voting to New Zealand read as follows: VOTE NZ yes..you can inspired by Barack Obama's famous words "yes we can". It was received with delight not only by the general public but most political parties all out on the streets of Wellington today.
The Green party got up early and took the prime spot, being Manners Mall the busiest pedestrian intersection in New Zealand. Labour and National drove past in their gas guzzling promotion vehicles increasing their carbon foot-print like there is no tomorrow and just making a lot of noise a bit like a rugby game chasing each other.

I have been on the streets for 4-6weeks now and watched Labour and National behaving badly throwing political rocks at each other in public. I predict the new younger voters are going to make the difference for us and our grand children.
Your reporter from the street can confirm a lot of young people when asked, have enrolled with a view to vote in this years election.

The New Zealand election just like the USA will be full of surprises, just like that crazy lady with the orange hair.

In the famous words of Steven Franks just recently "I can't wait untill it is all over" same goes Steven.

I attended the meeting yesterday [3 Nov] where we heard and questioned the Minister for Energy and Climate Change Mr Parker. I found the experience rather disturbing because substantially, it could have been Nick Smith speaking. Both are market fundamentalists…they believe that market mechanisms will eventually work out our problems. [ask Enron or Beare Sterns]. Both believe that economic growth is the key to a better future, despite the fact that only their economic model and cancer require continual growth. Both believe that if you throw enough money at a problem, then technology will come up with a solution.



That the two big parties are so similar is why I have always voted for a minor party. When I asked the Minister why the Government hadn’t done more to deal with climate change and runaway energy consumption, he blathered on about political realities. I said, it requires courage to stand up for the Earth against those political realities…he didn’t respond but later I said his government had a courage deficit and I suspect so would National.
